Our Work
Millions of people die unnecessarily each year due to lack of health care. Many of these are children living in poverty who die from malaria, pneumonia and diarrheal disease because they could not get effective medical treatment. Adults with chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease are unable to receive the continuous care needed to live a healthy life. A major reason for these unnecessary deaths is the shortage of doctors and nurses in poor countries, especially in rural areas where the poorest people live. Yet most of these problems can be easily treated by other types of health workers if they are given the tools they need to effectively diagnose and treat these patients. The mission of D-Tree International is to provide these health workers who are available and do live in rural areas with the tools they need to effectively diagnose and treat these patients.
D-Tree International is a non-profit organization bringing accurate and effective diagnosis and treatment to the world’s poor through the introduction of easy to use protocols that guide the health worker step by step to the correct diagnosis and treatment for each patient. This use of clinical standards of care has been shown to be an effective way to improve the quality of care provided to patients.
In this way, we are able to provide health workers with the tools they need to deliver first-class, evidence-based medical care to all patients so that when someone is sick and goes to a health worker they receive the care they need to make them better.
D-tree’s work has three main components:
- the development and validation of clinical standards of care covering most of the common causes of ill health
- the delivery of these standards in an easy to use electronic format appropriate to the needs of health workers in low income countries
- the use of mobile technology to empower both health workers and managers to deliver high quality care at low cost.
